Position Summary
The Dean of Library Services provides the visionary leadership for library services in keeping with the University Mission. S/he leads the library support of academic programs that span health professional schools, graduate and undergraduate programs, and adult distance education programs. The Dean of Library Services plans, directs and manages all library operations and services at the main campus and at health professional school sites around the city; develops and oversees library budgets; works closely with faculty and other Deans to support teaching, learning and research. With an enthusiasm for advances in library technologies and innovative service techniques that benefit today's learners, the Dean of Library Services leads the planning process and develops strategies for the future of library services. Acts as an official representative and advocate of the library in the University, state and regional library communities; promotes public relations and fundraising; fosters regional and state-wide cooperation in resource sharing and networking.
This position is considered a Responsible Employee under University of the Incarnate Word's Sexual Misconduct Policy with reporting responsibilities as set out in the policy.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- A deep understanding of the challenges facing libraries and higher education and the intellectual ability to envision opportunities and develop strategies to meet the needs of the learning and research community.
- Ability to lead and administer all matters relating to University library operations
- Keep current with innovative technology solutions for libraries of the 21st century.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven success in the implementation of effective and innovative library services.
- Ability to develop a strong collaborative working environment in a complex organization
-Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
-Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Masters of Library Science (MLS) or American Library Association (ALA) accredited degree equivalent
Required Work Experience
" Five years of library management or similar experience demonstrating leadership and management skills in an academic setting
" Evidence of effective fiscal resource management
Preferred Qualifications
" Advanced degree or PhD
" Five to ten years of progressively responsible library administrative and supervisory experience.
" Record of scholarship, research and professional service.
