Job Summary/Basic Function:
Job Summary:
The Director of Landscape is responsible for providing professional skills in design, planning organizing, and directing the care and landscaping of the University's grounds.
Responsible for campus and student housing trash and recycling collection.
Responsible for event materials delivery and set-up.
Responsible for Fleet Management, and fuel distribution responsibilities.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Associate Vice President and may involve exposure to inclement weather.
And other duties as assigned.

Major Essential Job Functions:
The Director of Landscape and Campus Services must possess an advanced knowledge of typical landscape, golf, sports turf, horticulture practices, equipment, and the ability to lead others in the completion of work. Must possess excellent customer service and negotiation skills. Must possess arborist skills and experience. The person in this position must be able to get along well with employees, customers, clients, and management and represent the University in a positive light. The noise level in the office environment is usually quiet; employee will experience noise/vibrations in the field. Job requires employee to perform duties at a client/customer site; working alone and closely with others, in excessive heat and humidity, occasional cold; with exposure to chemicals, solvents, detergents, cleaners, fumes, smoke, gases; will walk on uneven surfaces and operate automatic and manual transmissions.

Secondary Essential Job Functions:
Serve as Fleet Manager, overseeing the campus and department vehicle and utility vehicle fleet.

Other Duties as Assigned:
Other duties may be assigned to this position on a regular or occasional basis to respond to needs of the university.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Education Required:
Bachelors degree in horticulture, landscape, architecture, Forestry, or related fields associated with landscape services operations. Landscape architecture/turf management or related field.

Minimum Experience Required:
7 years of overall experience within an institutional, municipal, governmental, or similar setting. (10 years of applicable landscape/turf management and training may be substituted for a Bachelors degree, where that knowledge and experience is relevant to this position.).

Certification(s) Required:
Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) Pesticide Applicators License (or obtain in 90 days from date of employment) May be certified as Certified as Grounds Manger with the professional grounds Management Society or certified landscape professional.

Key Competencies:
Design, plan, and recommend best option to implement, install, and maintain landscaping on Campus grounds. May work through architects, engineers, contractors, staff members, planning and design staff, and Campus services employees to accomplish goals.
Be able to communicate well, both verbally and in writing; this position will interact with Campus executive administration and other officials or their assignees.
Recommends master landscape plans; works with others to execute those plans
Prepares Request for Proposal (RFP) for outside consultants/contractors; writes advertisement based on bid calendar, reviews bids and tabulation, may make recommendations for awarding contracts. Manages contracts to include: Grounds, Tree Trimming, Solid Waste, Landscape Irrigation, and Recycling.
Track budget, analyze trends, maintain sustainability, and conservation of natural resources.
Establish annual goals for landscape and bed maintenance. Develop and maintain tools metrics and indicators for assessing progress towards landscape maintenance and operations.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
Must comply with established Universitys safety standards and policies.
Performs as Project Manager within the technical areas of assigned projects and programs.
Coordinates project activities, assigns tasks, and provides guidance to personnel responsible for specific functions or phases of projects.
Oversees assigned projects to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with specified objectives.
Monitors project costs and schedules to ensure that the project does not exceed the approved budget and stays within the prescribed timelines.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Facilities.
Must have a Valid Texas Drivers License.
Position will be a first-responder in case of an emergency.
Clear driving record and background check is necessary.
Must be knowledgeable of sports fields turf management, tree care, and parking lot maintenance.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to walk campus routes, fields, and responsible areas. Must be able to apply pesticides, if necessary. Must be able to assist in lifting tables, event equipment, and set-up of event equipment. Must be able to work outside during summer heat. Must be able to lift 35 pounds occasionally, and 50 pounds on rare occasions.

Job Conditions:
Out-of-doors frequently in south Texas weather conditions.
