Basic Function:
The Executive Director for I&E is a newly created role, responsible for the I&E@WPI initiative across all disciplines and the I&E Center at WPI. S/he will be the catalyst to strategically align WPI entrepreneurial activities currently dispersed across the university across all disciplines including engineering, sciences, business, and humanities. S/he will often be the first point of contact for I&E to all of WPI's community members as well as for external parties seeking to collaborate with the university in I&E while actively exploring different mechanisms of stimulating innovation within the University. The Executive Director for I&E provides leadership for making I&E more visible on campus as well as showcasing its successes beyond the campus. Further, s/he will be responsible for developing a vibrant and inspiring culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, innovation, and excellence.
The Executive Director will report to the President, reflecting this central charge to inspire, support and facilitate I&E across the WPI community and extended ecosystem.
The Executive Director will be located on WPI's campus in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Knowledge and Experience:
Track record of success being part of a founding team or leading early stage organizations through funding, growth and a successful exit. A maker at heart who has gone through the pains of raising capital and managing growth. Entrepreneurial experience could come from a commercial or social project.
>Investment and commercialization expertise: identifying, evaluating, and bringing investments to fruition.
>Demonstrated ability to develop creative and innovative programs.
>Proven history of identifying and negotiating business partnerships that create a robust corporate and creative ecosystem.
