FIELD SERVICE AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNICIAN (Equipment Systems Specialist-Foundation)

Primary Duties:
Under direct supervision, incumbent works as a member of a team that provides voice and data network support to the campus community. Responsible for varying levels of field service work to include the installation, termination and testing of new structured cabling systems and the troubleshooting and repair of the existing physical infrastructure. Also responsible for varying levels of maintenance and repair of campus communications systems. Systems include but are not limited to the campus voice system, standard analog telephones, and local and wide area networking components.

Required Education:

The prerequisite foundation of knowledge and skills in technical systems and equipment would normally be obtained through an associate of arts degree in electronics, telecommunications, or industrial technology or equivalent education, training, and/or directly related experience.

Special Requirements:
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. This considered a sensitive position.   • This position is considered a decentralized (federated) IT service provider, as such incumbent is required to adhere to campus policies, standards, and procedures related to information technology support, information security, change control, desktop, server and application standards, accessibility standards, applications and web development standards, vendor access requirements, training , and more. Incumbent is expected to become familiar with and support campus compliance efforts for respective area.
  • The selected candidate must pass a post-offer pre-employment physical examination and vision tests including distance vision, color blindness, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Drivers License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Drivers Training course.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position operating a personal computer for long periods of time and frequently moving about inside the office. Must be able to travel across campus to other offices and buildings for meetings and events.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in dirty environments, confined spaces, and above ceilings is sometimes required. Incumbent is required to climb up and down ladders, crawl under desks, and through crawl spaces Work is also performed in a typical office environment operating standard office equipment.
