Instructor in German (part-time)

Position Summary
The Instructor in German teaches first-year German courses and/or any other German courses as needed.

This is a part-time, non-tenure-track position.


This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Essential Functions
The Instructor in German teaches first-year German courses and/or any other German courses as needed. As an Instructor, the Instructor in German conducts lectures, leads classroom discussions, and other classroom activities. Instructors construct essay assignments and examinations and other performance-based activities that provide evidence of learning by students in the course. Instructors work collaboratively with department faculty to ensure that standard curriculum outcomes are met. Instructors must be able to adhere to all UIW policies and procedures, including timely record-keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.

Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. The Instructor in German may perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
-Native or near-native fluency in German;
-Ability to work collaboratively with department faculty;
-Familiarity with the Catholic Intellectual Tradition;
-Demonstrated understanding of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs);
-Demonstrated competency in instruction and mentoring of students from a variety of backgrounds, including first-generation, low income, and racial and ethnic minorities;
-Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
-Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education
Master of Arts degree in German or in a related field with at least 18 post-graduate hours in German

Required Work Experience
Minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience in the field with demonstrated instructional competency via student and peer evaluation processes

Preferred Qualifications
-Ph.D. in German;
-Two (2) years successful experience teaching at the undergraduate level, with documentation of student evaluations.
