Job Summary
Lecturer I for Drama

The Residential College Drama Program http://www.rc.lsa.umich.edu/ is seeking to hire a Lecturer I to teach one course for the Fall 2020 semester. This position will equate to a 33.33% position for Fall 2020.

Course Description
The course will focus on affording students the opportunity to combine Drama study and script analysis with actual theatre production. As part of the RC Drama Major program, and the RC Drama: Text to Performance minor, the selected candidate will be providing students the opportunity to be actively involved in the multiple roles of actor, director, dramaturge and spectator through the production of a wide variety of classic plays and works of Modern Drama. Students will be expected to examine all the stages of the dramatic process and attune their sense of theater aesthetic through practice and experimentation. The qualified candidate will instruct students at all levels of their development as performers and directors, revising and exploring as these two disciplines intertwine.

Responsibilities*
The candidate will provide instruction for a class of approximately twelve to twenty undergraduates in an interdisciplinary liberal arts program. Additional duties include participation in college- and program-wide activities, including attending student performances and program meetings. The instructor will provide written evaluations for Residential College students enrolled in the course.

The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise and background in theater performance, specifically acting and directing. First-hand knowledge of various performance mediums, such as theater and acting, is essential. Establishing a practice of expertise in various academic disciplines and performance appropriate to the years in the field of the candidate is expected, as well as expertise and background in teaching undergraduates over a wide range of dramatic literature.

Required Qualifications*
Master's degree in Fine Arts in Theater, Master's degree in Arts in Drama or Theater Studies, or equivalent in professional theater experience. Must have experience in theater performance.

Desired Qualifications*
Additional experience in directing, playwriting, design and dramaturgy is a preferred.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
