Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Learning Experience/Digital Accessibility Designer helps shape how faculty, students, and staff effectively use and interact with the Learning Management System and associated instructional technologies. The Learning Experience/Digital Accessibility Designer coordinates project activities and processes to incorporate design thinking, user-centered and participatory design in the creation of instructional and learning assets that align to online quality frameworks and evidence-based best-practices.

  • Work closely with the LMS Administrator to collect data and track KPI's as determined by Academic Affairs for the Learning Management System to inform institutional initiatives.
  • Coordinate accessibility and remediation initiatives, design workflows, determine and track accessibility KPI's across the digital learning environment, and report on progress of accessibility remediation on campus.
  • Coordinate Learning Technologies support to instructors related to inclusive pedagogies and the accessibility of instructional development and provide consultation on instructional design issues related to developing effective and inclusive learning environments including the selection and implementation of accessible products and the creation of multi-media materials.
  • Test, evaluate, recommend, implement, and pilot new and emerging technologies that enhance accessible instruction. Consult with vendors in selecting accessible products and troubleshooting accessibility compliance issues and barriers.
  • Support and assist students, instructors, and members of the College community to answer questions and address barriers related to the accessibility and technical support of online, hybrid, hyflex, and enhanced courses, and technology in the classroom.
  • Utilize remediation software and accessibility checkers to audit the accessibility of and remediate digital materials, and train instructors, staff, administrators, and student workers in creating accessible digital materials for instructional use.
  • Represent the department on standing and initiative-based committees on campus and serve as a resource for other departments on campus as it relates to accessible technology enhanced learning.
  • Effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually, including presenting to stakeholders.
  • Other duties assigned.


  • Qualifications:

    Education
    • Certified Professional in Accessibility of Core Competencies (CPACC) or continuing education hours in Accessibility required.
    • Bachelors in Instructional Design, UX, or Adult Learning Theory preferred.

    Experience
    • Minimum 5 years' experience in instructional technology support required.
    • Demonstrated experience remediating digital documents and webpages for accessibility preferred.
    • HTML/XHTML (including W3C standards and WCAG accessibility standards), industry certification preferred.
    • HTML5, CSS, Flex experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of SEO principles and of implementation of those principles preferred.
    • Knowledge and demonstrated experience with cross-browser and web-hosting server issues (IE, Firefox, Safari, Windows, Linux) preferred.

  • Hiring Range:
    Classified 13 Salary/63,000.00 - 68,500.00

    Competitive starting pay is dependent on education and experience.
