Department Information


The School of Communication, Film, and Media (SCFM) at the University of West Georgia is a recipient of the University System of Georgia's Regents' Award for Teaching Excellence and is accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). We are committed to invested teaching, experiential learning opportunities, and connectedness between students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Our award-winning faculty are a diverse group of communication, film, and media professionals and scholars whose primary mission is to provide students with the best educational experience while preparing them to succeed in the field.

SCFM is home to Nexus degrees in Digital Entertainment, Esports, and Game Development and Film & Television Production, undergraduate degrees in Film & Video Production and Mass Communications, and a graduate degree in Digital and Social Media Communication. Mass Communications majors may choose from one of four concentrations: 1) Digital Media & Entertainment, 2) Film & Video Production, 3) Journalism, and 4) Public Relations, and all students have access to our cutting-edge experiential learning labs, which include bluestone Public Relations Firm, The West Georgian, WOLF Radio, WOLF Sports Network, and WUTV, as well as SCFM Productions, which produces video-marketing content for internal and external clients. Located less than an hour west of Atlanta, a top-10 U.S. media market, the School partners with a mix of professionals to offer networking, professional development, and internship opportunities.

Job Summary


The School of Communication, Film and Media at the University of West Georgia invites applications for a Limited Term Instructor of Film & Video Production to begin August 1, 2024.

This position will require a 12 credit-hour teaching load per semester, with some limited internal service expectations.

The successful candidate should be able to teach Film & Video Production and Screenwriting at the fundamental level, along with at least two intermediate-level skills courses (e.g., cinematography, sound design, editing, producing, directing). The ability to teach film history and/or studies is a plus. Additionally, the candidate may be expected to teach courses within the broader Mass Communications degree, depending on programmatic need and candidate experience.

Required Qualifications


The successful candidate must hold at least a graduate degree in discipline, with preference given to applicants with a terminal degree (M.F.A. or Ph.D.) or applicants with a graduate degree and considerable professional experience.

¿ Ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging including experience with inclusive pedagogies, scholarship relating to under-represented communities and social justice, and/or related service work.

¿ Expertise with Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Adobe Audition) and other related software.

¿ Experience teaching hybrid and fully online courses.

¿ Dedication to excellence in film education as evidenced by successful college-level teaching, including as a teaching assistant.

Length of Contract

The contract will run August 1, 2024 - May 15, 2025. Contract renewable, pending continued funding.



Proposed Salary

Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications, pending funding availability.
