OVERVIEW OF CCA

POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS), the Community College of Aurora (CCA) is dedicated to serving our surrounding community. As the most diverse institution of higher education in Colorado, CCA is currently the college choice for nearly 11,400 students representing over 60 countries, with 62% of our enrollment represented by students of color. In 2016, CCA was designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). CCA's service area includes more than 680,000 residents in Arapahoe, Adams, and Denver counties, and its student population reflects the broad diversity of this area. The college offers more than 90 degrees and certificate programs for students seeking to enhance their current skill set, pursue employment, or transfer to a four-year college or university upon graduation.

The Tutoring and Learning Supports (TLS) Department is seeking a part-time math tutor to be part of a skilled and highly motivated team. The successful candidate will have strong math expertise, learning assistance experience, and a culturally responsive approach in supporting student growth, development, and success.

The professional tutor will assist students to achieve academic success in current coursework and promote retention and persistence by assisting students with increasing confidence, skills, and ability in content areas. When necessary, tutors will assist in presenting academic workshops and performing other duties as assigned. Tutors will also participate in staff meetings and professional development as schedules permit.



EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The tutor will assist students to achieve academic success in college level math coursework and promote retention and persistence by assisting students with increasing confidence, skills, and ability in math. The tutor will have the ability to explain concepts in different ways. Must be dependable, approachable, patient, demonstrate a positive attitude, and have good communication skills.

Each semester, the tutor will complete an availability form, confirm schedule offer, sign an hourly appointment form, read, and sign a work expectation agreement, and set up availability in the EAB Navigate system. Throughout the semester, the tutor will maintain current and accurate records of tutoring appointments in EAB Navigate system, in accordance with Navigate guides. On a biweekly basis, the tutor will submit electronic hourly timesheets. As requested, the tutor will complete staff surveys and participate in tutor observations.

When necessary, the tutor will assist in conducting classroom visits to promote tutoring services, presenting academic workshops for students, and performing other duties as assigned. The tutor will also participate in staff meetings, teambuilding activities, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training, and other development opportunities as schedules permit.



TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, completed or in progress
  • Successful completion of college algebra or an equivalent course with a grade of "A" or "B"
  • Desire to learn tutoring strategies and techniques (training will be provided)
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills in the English language
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population
  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion for all students
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree
  • Previous tutoring or teaching experience in math
  • Proficient with Zoom





SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Assignments/Pay:
  • Position will be primarily located on campus but may be eligible to work some hours remotely or have a hybrid schedule
  • Work schedule many not exceed 29 hours per week
  • Primary hours of operation are Monday through Friday with some weekend and evening availability. All school observed holidays off including Thanksgiving (Fall Break), Spring Break, and all breaks between semesters.
  • Pay is up to $26.00/hour and is commensurate with education and experience.
