TITLE: Police Officer (4 Openings)

POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, performs all duties of a Police Officer, enforcing applicable laws, ordinances, policies and procedures keeping the Campus, Faculty, Staff, and Students safe and secure

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Is responsible for the protection of life and property of the general public within the jurisdiction of the NSCC Police Department.
Responds and takes the lead in atypical situations and emergencies, until relieved by higher more competent authority.
Assists with training activities and in-service presentations for other Police Officers, Security Guards and the campus population.
Observes and reports suspected crimes, accidents, or activities of a questionable/suspicious nature.
Discourages unlawful activities.
In conjunction with the Chief of Police and the departments Training Officer, assists with crisis & disaster planning.
Assists with the processing of all citations for traffic & parking violations.
Reports accidents involving persons or property, reporting probably cause of accidents, pursuing appropriate course of action and informing proper authorities as required.
Cooperates with other law enforcement officials and jurisdictions and testifies in court or legal proceedings as required.
Assists with the maintenance and use of departmental equipment.
Performs other work as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A High School Diploma or educational equivalent.
Current Tennessee Post certification
Minimum of two years of Police experience
Psychological examination and certification that individual meets physical requirements
A six month probationary period is required.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
An advanced certificate or Associates Degree

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of campus policies, city, county and state laws
Maintain compliance with Police Officer Standards & Training (POST), Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) & NSCC policies, rules & regulations.
Knowledge of general principles and practices of law enforcement supervision
Knowledge of campus and local area provisions for emergency situations
Ability to ascertain facts through personal contact and observation and to determine proper course of action
Ability to perform duties firmly, tactfully and with respect for the rights of others
Ability to plan and direct the work of others
Use of standard department equipment is required
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, public and other employees.

RATE OF PAY: $19.41 - $23.29 per hour depending on experience
