Additional Information:

The College of Public Health Division of Health Behavior and Health Promotion at The Ohio State University is searching for a highly exceptional early career health behavior scientist for the Provost's Tenure-Track Fellow to Faculty Program in the areas of health disparities and health equity, with a focus on the impact of trauma on different health outcomes. We especially welcome scholars whose research seeks to inform culturally appropriate interventions for the reduction of health disparities that characterize trauma-related outcomes. Applications from scholars who incorporate multilevel and intersectional frameworks that inform intervention development, implementation, and evaluation are highly responsive to this call. Thematic areas of high interest include, but are not limited to, gendered racism, the intersection of violence and abuse, physical trauma, intimate partner violence, mental health, and the social determinants of trauma-related health outcomes.

The goal of the Provost's Tenure-Track Fellow to Faculty Program is to recruit early-career scholars whose accomplishments make them exceptionally competitive for faculty positions. Following the two-year tenure-track fellowship period, the individual will then transfer to the rank of assistant professor. During the fellowship period, fellows will receive research funding and participate in career development programs offered by the Ohio State University Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) to support their transition to assistant professor and their long-term career success. In addition, fellows will conduct mentored research within the College of Public Health and the broader Ohio State University community under the guidance of a designated faculty mentor and mentoring team, while also engaging in professional development training.

In addition to research, after the faculty fellow transitions to an assistant professor line, the recruited candidate will be expected to contribute to the division's curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. At the start of the assistant professorship, the candidate will be expected to teach one course a year related to program planning, evaluation, community health assessment, etc., as a means to gain initial teaching experience. To develop their teaching profile, in at least one of the probationary years the scholar will develop new courses within their thematic area that also advance the teaching mission of the division. The scholar will have the opportunity to teach at least one signature course prior to tenure and promotion. As a national leader in public health research, Ohio State University has a responsibility to advance the research on racial justice to improve the health of our community, state and nation. Our division is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

The successful fellow candidate should demonstrate (1) a compelling research agenda focused on important public health challenges and publication and external funding capability, (2) potential for high-quality teaching and mentoring of public health students from diverse backgrounds, and (3) a demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity.

Qualifications:

Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in public health with a focus on social or behavioral science, or in a closely related field.

About the College:

The College of Public Health is Ohio's first accredited college of public health. In 2021, U.S. News & World Report ranked Ohio State's College of Public Health graduate program 24th of all Schools of Public Health. It is one of seven health sciences colleges on the same campus, more than any other university in the U.S. The college includes five academic divisions, two centers of outreach and engagement, four graduate degree programs with several specializations, and an undergraduate degree with two specializations, and two undergraduate minors. Specializations within the college include biostatistics, environmental health sciences, epidemiology, health behavior and health promotion, health services management and policy, veterinary public health, biomedical informatics, and clinical and translational science, and population health management and leadership.

The COVID-19 pandemic has only increased the visibility and connectedness of the College of Public Health. New educational initiatives include but are not limited to programs with Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, the Arts, Public Health Emergency Planning and Response, Climate Change, and Environmental Justice. Research priorities include work that addresses issues of social equity and racism while building on core strengths in understanding and addressing the social determinants of health. Within the social determinants of health, we have clusters of expertise in cancer, tobacco control, sexual and reproductive health, substance use, infant mortality, exposure science (with an emphasis on environmental and infectious exposures and inequities), and health services access and utilization.
