Job Description:

Madison College's Public Safety Services is currently seeking a meticulous and organized individual tasked with overseeing and implementing strategies to safeguard the college community. The Risk Manager will oversee a comprehensive risk management program aimed at protecting the well-being of students, faculty, and staff within Madison College from various risks. A significant focus will be on Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) issues at the campus.

In this role, the Risk Manager will also be responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing districtwide initiatives to mitigate potential adverse effects on college operations, finances, and community relationships. There are no direct reports, and this position manages risk and does not manage people.

Working within the Public Safety team, the Risk Manager reports directly to the Director of Public Safety and are responsible for non-benefit risk management and loss prevention programs across the college.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year position. General working hours will be Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 4:00pm. May be called in for emergencies.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and annual compliance reviews to identify potential hazards and vulnerabilities within the college facilities. Collaborate with relevant departments to mitigate risks. Participate in disaster recovery planning with Public Safety.
  • Develop and implement risk management processes and procedures. Stay abreast of industry best practices and regulatory requirements to ensure the college's policies and practices align with current standards. Serve on various internal committees. Act as the college's primary liaison with Districts Mutual Insurance for risk matters.
  • Work with Employee Learning and Organization Development to organize and conduct training sessions for college staff and students on risk mitigation strategies. Help promote a culture of safety and awareness within the college community.
  • Collaborate with Public Safety in establishing an effective incident response plan for the college. Assist in coordinating with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to ensure a prompt and efficient response to incidents that impact the campus community.
  • Manage the college insurance claims process, including collecting necessary data to support claims and working with the insurer to complete and closeout claims.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to risk management, and EHS duties. This includes participating in the contract review process related to insurance. Keep abreast of changes in legislation and update college policies accordingly.
  • Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision and values.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local safety and environmental laws, ordinances, and regulations; and how they pertain to a technical/community college.
  • Working knowledge of types of risk coverage available, including; property, casualty, life, health, EHS, workers compensation, long term disability, vehicular, and related insurable risks.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify and correct hazards through assessments, walkthroughs, and proactive safety measures such as job hazards analysis.
  • Very strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize demands.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, governmental officials, insurance carrier representatives, students, general public, and vendors.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience directly related to the skills required for successfully performing this position. Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
  • Five (5) years working experience directly related to the directly related to the skills required to perform this position.
