POSITION SUMMARY

The Community College of Aurora, under the leadership of Dr. Mordecai Ian Brownlee, the sixth president of CCA, has established an Office of Strategic Communications to usher the institution into the next era of internal (student/employees) and external (community/partners/donors/alumni) communications, publicity, promotion, advertising, marketing, and branding efforts.

The position will report directly to the Chief of Staff. The Strategic Communications Officer will work with the president, senior leaders, faculty, staff, instructors, students, and community stakeholders to advance the Community College of Aurora's mission through strategic communications, marketing, and branding initiatives. The institutional mission and vision of CCA requires a Strategic Communications Officer who will ensure the creation of content with a focused understanding of centering "Access" to information.




DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides personnel supervision and project management for the Department of Strategic Communications
  • Oversees the creation of marketing campaigns, public announcements, speeches and talking points, institutional e-newsletters, news releases, reports, articles, brochures, and flyers, and adds content to the college website and other social media to engage the college and external communities.
  • Serves as the public information officer (PIO), maintaining open and positive lines of communication with local communities and the media. This includes coordinating the writing and distribution of news releases, broadcast information, interviews, public service announcements, and feature articles.
  • Support the Office of the President, including writing or overseeing the development of speeches and statements, supporting event planning, preparing background and briefing materials, developing special communications, and digital engagement.
  • Assist in developing a comprehensive marketing plan that details strategies for marketing and promoting the college goals and objectives.
  • The candidate will effectively manage budget allocations, ensure fiscal discipline, and maximize resources to achieve organizational goals.
  • The incumbent will provide creative oversight to ensure all projects align with the CCA's brand identity and objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for innovation and the ability to inspire and guide creative teams towards producing high-quality, impactful work.
  • Oversee website content and ensure that content is updated and compliant with all applicable regulations and educational standards.
  • Lead the department in the design and implementation of digital and traditional marketing campaigns to increase the institution's market saturation and awareness within our service areas.
  • Fostering meaningful relationships with internal and external partners to support the mission of the Community College of Aurora effectively
  • Developing advertisements as needed, working with stakeholders and external partners on design and media dissemination.
  • Interpreting the purpose, philosophy, and vision of the Community College of Aurora to the general public.
  • Representing the College professionally and handling all business affairs confidentially.
  • Attending various college events and community events related to college activities, taking notes, and taking photographs for reporting and communications purposes.




REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing, fine arts, or other related fields
  • Excellent communication skills, including publication-level writing and editing
  • Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills
  • Experience managing/tracking a budget and ability to purchase in compliance with state, federal, and institutional fiscal rules.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to support events.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of very tight deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly assess unforeseen situations, use sound and thoughtful judgment to make decisions and problem-solve.
  • 3+ years managing social media profiles on behalf of an organization, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and additional relevant channels.
  • Superior attention to detail, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience, including demonstrated staff management skills.
  • Commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive community.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Significant experience at various organizational levels in public relations and marketing, either in the private sector, higher education, or preferably, both.
  • Significant experience leading marketing professionals and teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of full-funnel marketing for enrollment and advancement that integrates paid, earned, and owned channels to reach key audiences.
  • Demonstrated understanding of emerging marketing issues, particularly in higher education.





SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range is $83,134.00-$96,672.00 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
