Position Description
Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Monitors and/or supervises preventive maintenance on electrical equipment assigned to him/her.
  • Advises shop Foreperson or Tradesperson Leader on job or project status and operational problems. Provides after
    hour overtime work as required; handles all emergency generator callbacks as first call.
  • Conduct automatic and manual transfer tests of simulated power outages to ensure generators are functioning
    properly. Test batteries, fuel, coolant and oil.
  • Perform load testing on units to identify possible problems and prevent wet stacking. Make electrical and
    mechanical wiring modifications to diesel control circuits.
  • Assist and participate in routine inspections and make modifications to IC engines, diesel generators, and
    associated equipment. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
    and annunciator panels.
  • Secures vehicle, equipment and areas of operations. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks, vans, forklifts,
    trailers, lifts and tanks.
  • Identify, check and replace all filters on all assigned units.
  • Repair and maintain all egress lighting on campus facilities as assigned.
  • Repair, maintain all diesel units including Snorkel lifts and other non-generator equipment.
  • Work with outside vendors for calibration, proprietary parts and computer system adjustments.


Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyperson.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), Arc Flash protection and proper use of PPE.
