The Vice President (VP) & Chief Operating Officer (COO) is the senior non-physician executive for the Henry Ford Medical Group's (HFMG) clinical operations and plays a key management role in the vertically integrated health care system. The VP & COO will lead the execution of the HFMG long term growth and development plan and coordinate key physician strategic development to support physician integration and alignment.

Additionally, the VP & COO will work to maintain effective and responsive relationships with physicians, Hospital Presidents, Service Line Leaders, Department Chairs, Sr. VP of System Ambulatory Strategy & Operations and key executive leaders for the Henry Ford Medical Group's clinical operations. This position will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the HFMG.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy Responsibilities
Provide overall management and guidance to the regions/markets and collaborate on strategic direction for the Henry Ford Medical Group's clinical operations.
Develop strategic plans to address key issues identified by the HFMG Board of Governors.
Coordinate leadership and strategic decision making of the Henry Ford Medical Group clinical operations with HFH senior leadership.
Ensure processes are in place to deliver cost efficient, high quality, and customer focused clinical care. Reviews and recommends clinical design improvements including integration of digital based solutions.

Finance Responsibilities
Maintain financial viability in the Medical Group' clinical operations through growth strategies, cost management, and billing practices.
Oversee capital planning, allocation, and business plans to produce return on investment.
Ensure that all regulatory and compliance requirements are met in all of the HFMG clinical settings.
Manage finances including budgeting, control of salary, non-salary and capital investment expenses. Oversee the development of detailed fiscal and operational reporting.

Operational Responsibilities
For the Henry Ford Medical Group's clinical and academic operations:
Ensure consistent processes across markets through benchmarking, best practices, communication, and collaboration.
Ensure adequate resources are made available for regions to accomplish their goals.
Develop operational plans to address key issues identified by the HFMG Board of Governors regarding the Henry Ford Medical Group's clinical operations.
Oversee all HFMG clinical operations.
Collaborate with P.R. on Physician communications, marketing and with Human Resources regarding physician relations.

Talent Management Responsibilities
For the Henry Ford Medical Group's clinical operations:
Provide for human resource development through training, performance management, and succession planning in collaboration with Human Resources.
Develop and oversee Physician recruitment and employment strategies in collaboration with Human Resources, physician manpower planning and annual physician growth forecasts.
Lead development of new business opportunities.
In close collaboration with the Office of the General Counsel and Human Resources, manage professional and clinical staff, including day-to-day supervision, employee relations, and staff development.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Master's degree in healthcare administration or related field.
Ten (10) years management experience in health care with at least five (5) years in a senior role.
Minimum of seven (7) years of leadership and/or executive experience leading a physician group practice (greater than 100 physicians) is essential.
Demonstrate a strong track record of developing and maintaining collaborative relationships among diverse groups, including Board members, medical staff, as well as key external stakeholders.
Previous experience with physician strategies including a history of successful collaboration with physicians and with administrative peers.
Proven success and experience with physician employment contracting and physician compensation plans in collaboration with Human Resources.
